Instagram blocked in Beijing and across China, likely due to protests in Hong Kong

Instagram blocked in Beijing and across China, likely due to protests in Hong Kong
Following protests in Hong Kong, popular photo sharing and editing app Instagram has been blocked in mainland China.
Servers in Beijing, Shenzhen, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang province and Yunnan province are currently unable to reach the site, according to blockedinchina.com. There is no news on when the site will be back up (time to add that VPN to your phone).
Many Hong Kong protestors uploaded photos to the site labeled with the hashtag #OCCUPYCENTRAL, a phrase blocked on Sunday on Weibo. It was allowed earlier that day
While news of the Hong Kong protests aren't the most censored topic on China's twitter-like messaging forum, it appears most posts are critical or by state-media such as People's Daily.
"Photos of Hong Kong police being forced to disperse demonstrators with tear gas have been circulated online across the world," one upsetting editorial read. "These activists are jeopardizing the global image of Hong Kong, and presenting the world with a turbulent face of the city."
This is not the first time the app has disappeared from mainland Chinese phones. In July, Instagram was unavailable to download from Android phone stores, although those who had already downloaded the app or had different models of phones could still use it.
The exact number of Instagram users in mainland China is unavailable, but the platform had been increasingly popular in China over the years. The site currently has more than 200 million worldwide users, most of them from outside the United States.

Snake Boy who has Shed his Skin every 41 Days since he was Born;READ MORE

Ari
Ari has shed his skin every 41 days since he was born 16 years ago. He must soak his body in water every hour - night and day - and smear himself with lotion every three hours to prevent drying out.

Photographer Nurcholis Anhari Lubis, 35, has documented the little boy’s condition as part of an essay project and describes the boy's skin condition as ‘scaly like a snake about to shed his skin’....continue

Mr Lubis told Daily Mail Australia:
‘It’s really sad because he was not born normally and has scaly skin all over his body,
similar to being severely burnt, from the sole of his feet up to his head. If the boy doesn't moisturise or soak his skin in water, his body would shrivel and harden up like a sculpture and he won't be able to move. If he leaves it unattended for too long, he won’t be able to speak because the wrinkles inside his mouth would go hard and it would dry out all his blood in his body.'

Mr Lubis said Ari's family were told by doctors at the hospital where he was born that it did not have the resources to treat the condition, and asked them to take the infant away. He and his family now live by a routine of constant washing and dressing his skin with creams. Still, the boy is trying to live a normal life in his village.

Mr Lubis continued:
'He eats normal food like everyone else and his favourite snacks are instant noodles and crackers. He had trouble making friends when he was younger and would often go and play with the other kids but most of the time, they would avoid him because he is different to everyone else.'

Ari is taking lessons, but is forced to study alone because of ignorance about his condition in the community.

‘No schools are willing to accept him because they fear his skin condition would be contagious to teachers and other students,' Mr Lubis said.

Ari also suffers prejudice because of superstitions in his village. Mr Lubis said many people blame Ari's condition on a superstition that if a woman mistreats animals while she is pregnant then it will affect her unborn child.

Some people believe Ari's mother ‘tortured a lizard’ she found in the family home when she was pregnant with Ari. Ari has trouble talking because of the condition and the vision in his right eye is impaired, while the left must be kept moist with constant drops.

When Amber Rose tweeted the message above and a day later,it was revealed she filed for divorce, it was obvious something drastic happened .And according to TMZ,she actually caught him n the act .Sadly, they say Wiz is not even interested in having her as his wife, thats why he isn’t contesting her decision to divorce him
Wiz Khalifa left Amber Rose weeks before she filed for divorce … and the trigger that sent Amber’s lawyer running to the courthouse was an uninvited 2 AM  house call by Amber … TMZ has learned.
Sources connected with Wiz tell TMZ … the rapper is telling friends there’s a simple reason why he left … “I just didn’t want to be married to her anymore.”
We’re told Wiz moved out and got his own place, and the day before Amber filed, she went to his house at 2 AM and found him with another woman … and went nuts.As far as Wiz is concerned … he wasn’t cheating. He told friends he made it clear weeks earlier the marriage was over.
It’s interesting … even though Wiz moved out weeks before … he listed the legal date of separation on his divorce response as Sept. 22 — last Monday.

Accused Smuggler Found With 51 Turtles Beneath Clothing

TURTLE STACK
DETROIT (AP) — A Canadian man has been charged after border agents at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel found more than 50 turtles strapped to his body and hidden between his legs.
The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/1BbWGSj ) that Windsor, Ontario, resident Kai Xu was charged Wednesday with smuggling, illegal trading and exporting. A bond hearing was scheduled Thursday in federal court in Detroit.
A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent received a tip about a large box sent to a Detroit postal center. Court documents say it was addressed to Xu and mailed from Alabama. Agents were watching the postal center on Aug. 5 when Xu arrived.
The turtles were found after Xu's SUV re-crossed the border and was stopped in Windsor.
It wasn't immediately clear if Xu has a lawyer.lawyer.

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West booed at Lanvin Fashion ...

It appears that not everyone is excited for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to be at Fashion Week.
The famous duo were seen entering the Lanvin show in Paris several minutes late, and as they made their way to their front row seats, a few fellow fashion show-goers began booing from across the runway.
The outspoken rapper heard the reaction to their arrival and immediately walked over to confront the less-than-pleased guests.
"Alber [Elbaz] asked to see us, don't boo us," Kanye exclaimed, referring to the fashion house's head designer. "We're not late, we're not late."

World's 'happiest' run kicks off in Shanghai

THOUSANDS of runners, professionals and amateurs, today took part in the inaugural Shanghai Color Run.
The event at the Oriental Sports Center proved so popular that online registration closed eight minutes after it opened on August 13, leaving thousands frustrated and disappointed.
The Color Run was created and trademarked by US event producer Travis Snyder, who bills it as “the happiest 5 kilometers on the planet.”Runners start with clean, white T-shirts.
After every kilometer and at the end of the run, they shower one another with colored flour, ending up looking like Monet paintings in motion. Professional and amateur runners are invited to participate.
The city is now in the throes of a running craze. The 16,000 slots for the 2014 Shanghai International Marathon were also filled in a matter of hours earlier this month. There are simply more people wanting to participate in organized runs than slots allocated.
Running with a splash of colors in Pudong is among the 46 activities scheduled for the 2014 Shanghai Tourism Festival, which will run from September 13 to October 6

George Clooney, fiancee arrive in Venice for wedding

GEORGE Clooney vowed he would never marry again, giving hope to millions of women that they one day might get their chance at romance with Hollywood's most eligible bachelor.
And for more than two decades, Clooney's love life has been tabloid fodder as he carried on romances with a series of models and actresses, a cocktail waitress, an Italian starlet and a former professional wrestler — before meeting his match in human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.
Less than five months after their engagement was announced, the couple is marrying this weekend in a celebrity-studded wedding extravaganza in Venice, one of the world's most romantic settings.
It has not been reported if Michelle Pfeiffer has called him on his $100,000 bet that he would, indeed, never marry again following his four-year marriage to Talia Balsam, which ended in 1993. And it is unknown how many hearts have been broken by Clooney's renunciation of his sworn bachelorhood, but there are plenty.
"I am going to tell all the women who are sad because George is getting married: Yah, you lost this one because he is an honorable, sensitive, intelligent, sweet guy," said Howard Bragman, vice chairman of reputation.com and a long-time Hollywood publicist who has observed Clooney in action on sets and at events.
Bragman said Clooney "holds a very unique place in Hollywood."
"George is a contemporary throwback star," he said. "He is contemporary in his thinking. He has taken stands on politics, in presidential elections, on Darfur and other causes. But in terms of his respect and his place in the Hollywood system, he is very traditional. He is a throwback to at timeless movie star, almost Cary Grant."
Venice is perhaps a natural setting for Clooney's wedding. The star owns a villa on Lake Como north of Milan, feels at home in Italy and is a frequent visitor to Venice, often to promote his films at the Venice Film Festival.
While the Venetian waterways offer stunning views of the city's Byzantine and Renaissance architecture, where East truly meets West, its system of islands also permits privacy and easily restricted access.
Clooney and Alamuddin arrived in Venice by bus on Friday accompanied by a small group of guests who included the groom's parents, as well as Cindy Crawford and her husband. A clutch of photographers greeted them, and the couple obliged with smiles and poses.
They were met by Clooney's regular water-taxi driver, who piloted the group down the scenic route along the picturesque Grand Canal lined by stunning palazzi, including the one where the couple is to be married in a civil ceremony on Monday.
Clooney and his bride stood outside during the water-taxi ride, his arm comfortably around her as they were conveyed along the most famous of Venice's canals on a boat fittingly named "Amore." He waved to well-wishers as they passed under the famed Rialto Bridge.
The water journey ended at the luxury Cipriani Hotel, Clooney's usual residence when in Venice, on an island opposite St. Mark's Square.
Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, have not publicly divulged details of the celebrations — leaving plenty open to speculation.
A reporter saw a distinct hexagonal box that Alamuddin was photographed carrying through a Milan airport on Thursday arrive by water taxi at the Aman Hotel overlooking the Grand Canal, rumored to be the venue of one of the weekend festivities. The wedding veil, perhaps? And the million dollar question: Who designed the dress she will wear?
Giorgio Armani said during Milan Fashion Week that the groom would be wearing Armani. Clooney is a long-time friend of the designer and has in the past been a front-row guest at his menswear shows. And an Armani suit bag arrived with Clooney, among two vans of luggage, in Venice.
Venice city officials have announced the closure of a 50-meter (yard) length of pedestrian way along the Grand Canal where the 16th-century Cavalli Palace is located for two hours on Monday for the Clooney nuptials. Media have speculated that the couple will have two ceremonies — one on Saturday followed by a civil ceremony Monday.
The arrival of other celebrities in Venice on Friday indicated star-studded festivities were in the making. Those spotted included Clooney's cousin Miguel Ferrer, Matt Damon, Ellen Barkin, Anna Wintour and Richard Kind.
Clooney has expressed bemusement at the level of interest in his love life over the years. And it's unlikely to stop with marriage.
"I think it is going to help his image," Bragman said. "He married someone who is super intelligent, super beautiful and super comfortable in her own skin. And I think that shows that here is a guy who has enough security in his own skin to marry someone who is truly his equal."

Apple shows off how they bend test iPhones

apple-bendgate-video-tests
Apple’s finally taking a stand against #bendgate. First up was an official missive that claimed only 9 iPhone 6 Plus users have registered complaints about their new $750 devices being bent. Then they went on the offensive by showing reporters around their test lab.
What goes on inside the facility looks very similar to what you’ve probably seen from other manufacturers. An array of machines are set up to subject iPhones to real world abuses, including sitting on hard and soft surfaces and several different bending and twisting tests.
Senior VP of hardware engineering Dan Riccio says that iPhones will only deform if users “apply a huge load beyond a natural point of deformation.” Basically, if you reef on your phone, you’re going to bend the ever-loving crap out of it. He underscores that Apple runs these tests thousands of times, and they’re performed both in China and back home in Cupertino.
So there you go then, Russell. That slight deformation you’re seeingafter handling your new iPhone as carefully as you’ve handled every other phone you’ve tested for Geek.com is clearly due to secretive late-night bending sessions. It’s definitely not just happening because of denim/human thigh physics

BlackBerry Passport :Quick Review

BlackBerry Passport
Performance-wise, the Passport has the most powerful hardware that BlackBerry has ever brought to the table. Its quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM ensure that most everything is fluid and smooth, and the browser is really fast. But the Passport still slows down when  tryng  to multitask or do more than one thing at a time, which is frustrating for a device with such powerful hardware.
The new 13-megapixel camera is the best camera any BlackBerry has ever had, but that’s not really saying much. It has autofocus, can shoot 1080p video in 30 or 60 frames per second, and its picture quality is usually good, if not great. But it’s slower than the competition, and sometimes it takes multiple seconds to launch (if it launches at all). It also takes pictures in the Passport’s square screen format by default, even though there isn’t an Instagram app available to share those square photos.

The World’s Quietest Room ; Will Drive You Crazy in 45 Minutes ...

Orfield_Labs_Chamber.jpg
Ah, the Sound of Silence.
A Minnesota lab has a room that is said to be the quietest in the world. It's so quiet in fact that the only sound you'd hear is your own body.
You can eavesdrop on your heart beating, your stomach gurgling - sometimes you can even hear your lungs.
Orfield Laboratories president Steven Orfield told the Daily mail when there's nothing to hear, the ear produces "auto emissive" noises, acting as a microphone and loudspeaker.
"'In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound," he said.
The walls are double, made of insulated steel, concrete and fiberglass acoustic wedges that are a metre thick (about 3 feet). The floor is mesh, "like a trampoline" all of which make the room 99.99% sound-proof.
Orfield said the experience is definitely weird and many people who tour the room walk out within seconds.
In fact, if you're in there for any length of time, you have to sit down because it can be so disorienting. Orfield said the longest anyone's held out is 45 minutes.
In a study published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, subjects exposed to this type of chamber, for as little as 15 minutes in the dark, reported psychosis-like experiences.
Generally though, the room is used for far less scary, more practical reasons. Orfield said many companies, such as Harley Davidson, use it to test how loud their products are.
NASA uses a similar chamber for its astronauts, who are placed in a water-filled tank to see how well they respond to hallucinations.
Guinness has recognized the room in Minnesota as the world's quietest chamber, but unofficially a chamber at the University of Salford in Manchester, England has claimed to record even lower decibels.

Amber Rose has filed for divorce from her husband of just over 2 years, Wiz Khalifa, and is requesting full custody of their 1-year old son, Sebastian, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason she’s filing. According to the TMZ report, Amber will be allowing Wiz visitation, and they’ve managed to obtain the divorce papers.
Just last month, Wiz Khalifa interviewed with our chairman and a member of our Senior Editorial staff for his Power 30/SOURCE360 issue cover story, but he made no mention of any impending changes in his and Amber’s relationship.

50 Boko Haram fighters arrested in Nigeria's Borno State

Fifty suspected members of Boko Haram group were arrested Wednesday by troops in northeastern Nigeria's state of Borno, epicenter of violence in Africa's most populous country, a top military officer said.
The terror suspects were nabbed when a truck conveying them was intercepted by troops in Biu area of the northern state, said the source who wanted to be anonymous.
The suspects, who had already made confessional statements, were whisked to a detention center in Biu, the source told Xinhua, noting they were in transit to Gombe, a neighboring northeastern state, when a youth vigilante group alerted the security operatives.
In their confessional statements, the suspects, aged between 18 and 25, said they were all on the run following the killing of one of their leaders in a crossfire with security operatives last week, the source added.
Analysts say this development further confirms the recent progress in Nigeria's counter-terrorism approach in ending the five-year insurgency of Boko Haram, a group which has proved to be a major security threat in the West African country.
On Sunday, the Nigerian Defense Headquarters via a statement confirmed that some Boko Haram fighters had begun to surrender with their weapons voluntarily, following relentless onslaught by troops.
The terrorists surrendered on Saturday, pleading for mercy, the statement said.
At least 13 insurgents were also killed in a crossfire with Nigerian forces after a local market was attacked in the same northeastern state last Friday.

Liverpool gets go-ahead for Anfield expansion

LIVERPOOL has been granted permission to redevelop its Anfield home by the city's municipal authorities, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday.
Members of Liverpool City Council's planning committee voted in favour of the scheme after visiting the stadium, which currently seats 45,276 and has been Liverpool's home since 1892.
Liverpool will now be able to proceed with the first phase of the project -- the addition of 8,500 seats to Anfield's main stand, taking the ground's overall capacity to around 54,000.
"Today's approval by the Planning Committee is another step on our journey which we embarked on nearly two years ago," Liverpool's chief executive officer Ian Ayre told the club's website.
"We received very positive support for our proposals during a public consultation exercise earlier this year and whilst we are delighted about the progress made today, there are still some steps that we need to navigate through in order to give us the certainty that we need to proceed with our expansion plans."
Construction work on the main stand is expected to begin early next year and be completed in time for the 2016-17 season. Matches will continue to be played at Anfield while the work is carried out.
The planning committee also approved outline proposals to expand the Anfield Road stand by adding 4,800 new seats.
In its current state, Anfield is dwarfed by the stadiums of some of Liverpool's main rivals, such as Manchester United's Old Trafford (75,731 capacity) and Arsenal's Emirates Stadium (60,338).
As a result, whereas United generated £127 million ($208 million, 161 million euros) in matchday revenue during the 2013-13 season, Liverpool's equivalent income was £52 million, according to financial analysts Deloitte's latest Annual Review of Football Finance.

American journalist freed from Somali pirates

(CNN) -- American journalist Michael Scott Moore, held for more than two years by Somali pirates, has been freed, Moore's family and a Somali official told CNN on Tuesday.
"We are just elated," Marlis Saunders, Moore's mother, said in a brief conversation. "It took a lot of work for us to get this point. And to hear he is free -- just joyful, I can't describe it."
"All this is just so new," said Saunders, who lives in Redondo Beach, California. "I did not have much time to talk with him. We just have a lot of things to do and I cannot talk anymore. We need a little time to evaluate all this."
The governor of Somalia's Mudug region, Ahmed Muse, told CNN that local elders negotiated Moore's release, adding that the journalist is "physically and mentally" worn out.
Moore boarded a plane at an airport in Galkayo, in the north-central part of Somalia, Muse said.
Muse would not say where the journalist is headed.
"I'm absolutely thrilled," said Michel Todd, who was Moore's web editor at Pacific Standard magazine. "It's like seeing somebody come back from the dead. It's a marvelous resurrection."
Todd said Moore was a weekly freelance columnist who wrote often about Somalia. He had been researching Somali pirates.
"As a news organization, we wanted to write about his capture," Todd said. "But we had been encouraged by the FBI and State Department to (not) write about it because this would hurt his cause. They said, if you really care about the guy, that is not a good idea, raising his profile would make his release more difficult."
Todd said Moore's stories suggested that illegal European fishing was driving Somalis into piracy.
"Of all the people for the pirates to nab," he said. "He wasn't necessarily a spokesman, but he was someone who was more amenable to getting (the pirates') point across. I'm not saying he was pro-pirate, but he was pro-truth and that seemed like something that might have been helpful to Somalis."
Maria Streshinsky, editor of Pacific Standard, said, "We are thrilled, but it has been really far too long. It's been such a worrisome situation. We are just elated. We may have a toast and a beer in his honor. I hope he is healthy."
Pacific Standard is a publication of the Miller-McCune Center for Research, Media and Public Policy, a California-based nonprofit. PSmag.com claims to reach nearly one million readers each month with research-based articles about the social sciences,
Moore's mother declined to comment when asked if a ransom was paid for her son.
Muse said he did not know if a ransom was paid.
In lawless Somalia, it's common -- particularly among pirates -- that people are kidnapped and their freedom negotiated for ransom. The pirates operate in the Gulf of Aden, one of the globe's most trafficked shipping waterways.
The U.S. State Department confirmed in January 2012 that officials had spoken with Moore's family and been in touch with contacts in Kenya and Somalia to get more information.
The department noted at the time that a travel warning for Somalia cautioned U.S. citizens of the risks of traveling to the country and recommended avoiding it.
CNN's Ray Sanchez and journalist Mohamed Sheikh Nor in Somalia contributed to this report.
